Prudential Life Insurance Ghana (PLIG) celebrated its commitment to making insurance accessible by introducing Mekakrawa, an affordable micro-insurance product, at the Kejetia Market in Kumasi. The launch coincided with Prudential’s 175th anniversary globally and marked nine years of providing health and life insurance in Ghana.

Diverse attendees, including key figures like Dr. Hazel Berrard Amuah (CEO of Prudential Life Insurance Ghana), Farouk Dramani (Ashanti Regional Manager of the National Insurance Commission), and Nana Akwasi Prempeh (President of the Federation of Kumasi Traders), gathered for the launch.
Mekakrawa draws inspiration from the concept of the ‘widow’s mite’ and offers Ghanaian workers, especially those in the informal sector, the opportunity to access insurance with minimum premium contributions of GH¢3 and maximum contributions of GH¢45. It can be subscribed to digitally by dialing *778# for MTN users and provides coverage for death, total and permanent disability, accidental death, and critical illness.
The launch event featured staff, financial consultants, and strategic partners who unveiled the product amidst dancing, cheer, and fun-filled activities. Dr Amuah expressed the company’s commitment to financial inclusion, stating that Mekakrawa aims to bring insurance benefits to every Ghanaian, regardless of income or banking status.
Mr. Farouk Dramani of the National Insurance Commission praised the product’s benefits and highlighted Prudential’s contributions to promoting financial literacy and protection.
Additionally, Prudential announced its brand ambassadors for the 360 corporate campaign, including veteran actor Fred Amugi, national dance sensation Danita Yeboah (Afronita), and celebrated actor and comedian Kojo Nkansah (Li’l Win). The ambassadors expressed gratitude and pledged their support in helping Prudential enhance the lives of Ghanaians.
The launch concluded with a float through the streets of Kumasi, spreading awareness about the product and emphasizing the importance of insurance. Attendees had the opportunity to participate in engaging activities and win exciting souvenirs, courtesy of Prudential Life Insurance Ghana.
